Time Out For Women

Catherine asked me if I wanted to go to Time Out For Women with her and the answer was a resounding, "YES!" I have been intrigued by TOFW for a few years but did not want to go alone. I thought Catherine was putting together a group of her friends to go. I was so honored when I learned she was planning to go with just me! She drove from Spring to my house, and then I drove to San Antonio. We dropped off our stuff in our hotel room and then we went to explore the River Walk before TOFW started. It was Friday 6:30-9:30pm and Saturday 9am-4pm.

There were so many great speakers. Friday night we heard from Emily Watts and John Bytheway. On Saturday we heard from Elaine S. Dalton, Lisa Valentine Clark, Michael Wilcox, Hank Smith, and Emily Freeman. They also had two musical groups: Gentri performed on Friday and Mercy River performed on Saturday.

GENTRI

We worried about being able to see the stage but we ended up with amazing seats. We sat off to the side but in the second row and we could see everything.

We went out for a late dinner at Barbaro. We ate at 10:30pm. The pizza was incredible and it was nice to eat with another foodie (although not the snobby kind). We both overate but we didn't stop there! We ordered ricotta zeppoli for dessert.

We got back to our hotel at 11:40pm and had to wake up the next day at 6:30am. We wanted to be back to the event center when they opened the doors so we could have a good seats and we totally nailed it. Front row, very center. The seats were incredible.

Mercy River

We wandered down to the River Walk on our lunch break. We had looked up reviews online and we decided on a place called Boudro's. They asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside and we definitely wanted to eat along the River Walk! We both got crème brûlée for dessert. Dessert at lunch! We really were splurging.

I learned a lot of great things and came home so motivated to be a better wife and mother. Something that stood out to me was when they talked about ministering vs. administering. Ministering includes visiting, serving, encouraging, bearing burdens, and comforting. Administering includes calendaring, planning, organizing, paperwork, structure, and meetings. Both are good things but sometimes the things we do in the church tend to be more about administering and I would like to do more ministering.

The best part of this trip was Catherine though. I did not think I could love her any more but I learned that I can this weekend. She is so sweet, thoughtful, humble, creative, and so much more. We both set goals for the future. We learned that we are really hard on ourselves. It was great to be built up this weekend. We plan to go back to TOFW again next year!

  2. I've never actually been to TOFW. Mostly because I'm a heathen and think a full day or two sitting still in a fireside sounds awful. But time with a good friend and eating lots of yummy food and being away from my children does sound fabulous!
